Three Teens Shot In Bronx Playground

Bronx

Three teenagers were shot in a Bronx playground Tuesday night in the late hours of Night Out Against Crime, a national anti-violence event, according to the New York Daily News.

One of the young men was shot in the leg, while the other man and a young woman suffered chest wounds about 11 p.m. at the Agnes Haywood Playground in the Gun Hill section, according to police. They were taken to Jacobi Hospital, and all are expected to survive.

A man who lives in a nearby apartment said he heard about a dozen shots in rapid succession.

“It’s an every-weekend thing around here,” he said.

The bloody incident came during the 29th annual Night Out Against Crime, in which cops and the communities they serve came together across the five boroughs. The events Tuesday were marked by a focus on the proliferation of illegal guns and a recent uptick in shootings that has rattled the city this summer.

“There are too many guns and way too many people wiling to use those guns,” Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said at a gathering in St. Mary’s Park in the Bronx.

In Harlem, Council Speaker Christine Quinn mentioned last week’s funeral of 4-year-old Lloyd Morgan, who was fatally hit by a stray bullet while playing in a jungle gym.

“We don’t ever want to be in a room again with a coffin that small,” she said. “That’s our mission — tonight and every night.”
